This month, San Bernardino County is implementing more drive-through COVID-19 testing events, including one here in the Morongo Basin. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Residents of the Morongo Basin with symptoms of COVID-19—fever, cough and shortness of breath—can soon be tested from their car.

This month, the County will host five COVID-19 testing events, including one at Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree on Wednesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An appointment will be required via the County’s COVID-19 website, sbcovid19.com, and can be made once the appointment window opens, usually 48 hours before the test date. Details on how to make an appointment will be publicized in advance on CountyWire at http://wp.sbcounty.gov/cao/countywire/.

Testing is free and does not require health insurance. Future testing events are also being planned for Twentynine Palms.

More than 11,000 people have already been tested for COVID-19 at previous events in San Bernardino, Victorville, and Colton. There are over 1,000 positive cases of COVID-19 in the county and 47 deaths.

These so-called “specimen-collection events” will also occur this month in Big Bear and Rancho Cucamonga. Copper Mountain College is located at 6162 Rotary Way in Joshua Tree.

The County’s COVID-19 website, sbcovid19.com, is updated daily and the Coronavirus Public Information Line, 909-387-3911, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or email the county at [email protected].
