County’s annual Point in Time Count data used for community resources that address homelessness

On Thursday (January 22), hundreds of volunteers participated county-wide in the annual Point In Time Count, which counts and contacts the number of unhoused people in a community.
The Point In Time Count collects data about unhoused people which is used to allocate resources throughout the year. On one day every January, volunteers hit the streets to survey their community and identify who, how many, and where people are living on the streets.
This year, volunteer efforts were bolstered by additional resources provided by San Bernardino County, including a mobile team that was deployed in real time to serve the needs of the unhoused community by providing emergency housing, temporary shelter and supportive services.
The County’s Office of Homeless Services expanded how it distributes information to volunteers by establishing a Story Map that includes details on the PIT Count, volunteer training schedules, instructional videos for setting up the mobile app, a map of deployment sites and volunteer resources.
Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe said “addressing homelessness remains one of our highest priorities.”
Results from Thursday’s count will be released later in this year. The 2025 PIT Count reported that 3,821 individuals were experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in San Bernardino County, which indicated a 10.2 percent decrease in homelessness.
Ultimately, last year’s results indicated progress in addressing this issue.
