COUNTY WANTS TO SPEED UP JOSHUA TREE MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY CONSTRUCTION

It would be hard to overlook the large construction site on the south side of Highway 62 near Sunny Vista Road on the western edge of Joshua Tree. Going up is the new Crisis Residential Treatment facility. At tomorrow’s 10 a.m. meeting of the County Board of Supervisors in San Bernardino, the board is expected to vote for the facility open its doors four months early. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has details…

Supervisors will likely approve agenda item 31 which calls for adding $724,000 to construction costs in order to compensate the contractor for accelerating the project completion date from April 22, 2018 to December 31, 2017. The change is necessary to comply with the state’s grant funding requirements. Once complete, the Crisis Residential Treatment facility will provide a positive, short-term treatment option with recovery based services and interventions in a home-like setting. Stays for 30 to 90 days will be available for adults age 18 and older diagnosed with mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorders. Tomorrow’s meeting streams online and to the first-floor teleconferencing room in the County Government Center on White Feather Road in Joshua Tree. Public comment may be made via live video link from that location as well.
