According to data released this morning (April 2), San Bernardino County now has 254 confirmed cases of coronavirus. That’s up from 183 on Tuesday. The number of deaths remains at six. Locally, Yucca Valley has two cases; 29 Palms has none. Yucaipa continues to have the most cases in the county, with 60, which is up from the 53 reported Tuesday. That includes the 51 residents and six staff at Cedar Mountain Post Acute Rehabilitation Center. One of the residents, an 89-year-old female with underlying health conditions, died last week. A second resident died Monday.
Yesterday, two more Sheriff’s deputies tested positive for COVID-19, making it five San Bernardino County deputies who have tested positive. The two newly diagnosed deputies, who were assigned to the corrections bureau, have been home from work for the past week with flu-like symptoms, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. An investigation was underway to determine how they were infected. Of the other deputies, one was assigned to patrol duty, and two others also work in the corrections bureau.
Eleven staff and one inmate at the California Institution for Men in Chino tested positive for COVID-19. Tests for two staff and three inmates are pending. Except for the inmate, the eleven CIM staff have been self-quarantined away from their place of employment.
Since Tuesday, the county’s tally of confirmed cases is up 39 percent. The number of tests is up 31%. Of the 2,963 people tested for COVID-19, 8.6% had positive results. Most of the cases—103—were among people 18 to 49 years old, while 74 cases were 50 to 64 years old; 74 cases were older than 65 and three were 2 to 17 years old.
