County supervisors yesterday approved amendments to the County Code regulating short-term vacation rentals and accessory dwelling units. The new ordinance is the culmination of months of meetings with proprietors of short-term rentals as well as those who live nearby. The most significant change is that those who operate AirBNB-type rentals in the desert now have 30 days in which to purchase a two-year operating permit from the county.
The updated ordinance also addresses numerous conditions of operation including what accessory dwelling units will be allowed.
