The county supervisors started the process of converting 605 acres of property that had gone mostly ignored by the county in Joshua Tree into a park yesterday. Reporter Mike Lipsitz explains…
At yesterday’s County Supervisor meeting in San Bernardino, the board placed a deed restriction on 605 acres in Joshua Tree to comply with a federal grant requirement. The move is the next step in a plan to develop what’s being called the Desert View Conservation Area. Known locally as Section Six, the site is located in an undeveloped expanse east of Park Boulevard in Joshua Tree. The county plans to pair a $200,000 federal grant with a matching state grant to construct three miles of interactive trail loops, restrooms, parking area, and informational kiosks. According to County Special Districts, development of section six is needed to stem increasing habitat degradation due to unchecked public access.
