COUNTY SUPERVISORS TO LOWER JOSHUA TREE SPEED LIMITS

At tomorrow’s remotely accessible 10 a.m. meeting of County Supervisors in San Bernardino, the board will consider two items of particular interest to Morongo Basin residents. First, the board will approve a reduction of the speed limit on Quail Springs Road between Alta Loma and Skyline drives in Joshua Tree from 55 to 45-miles-per-hour. That action stems from an engineering and traffic survey conducted at the request of a local resident. Also tomorrow, supervisors will approve a grant application that is expected to give the Sheriff’s Department here an additional $400,000 for off-highway motor vehicle law enforcement. The funds will primarily be split between overtime and equipment for patrols along Joshua Tree National Park boundaries and in and around Johnson and Wonder valleys where OHV-related service calls tripled from 453 in 2018 to 1,430 in 2019.
