Once again, land here in Morongo Basin – acquiring it, selling it, and collecting taxes on it – will dominate local issues on the agenda when county supervisors meet tomorrow.
At tomorrow’s 10 a.m. meeting in San Bernardino, county supervisors are expected to approve an amendment to the Voluntary Collection Agreement with Airbnb Inc. for collection of the Transient Occupancy Tax, or TOT, adding a provision for registered hosts who opt to remit their TOT directly to the County. In this case, the tax applies only to accommodations of 30 days or less and only in the unincorporated areas of the county. Also tomorrow, the board is expected to authorize a public auction for sale of the former office for CSA-70 TV5, the former TV club. The property is on Old Dale Road in Twentynine Palms; the auction is set for October 16 with a minimum opening bid of $35,000. And finally, supervisors will accept a donation of ten vacant acres on the northwest corner of Two Mile and Sunrise roads in Twentynine Palms. The county department of environmental services is expected to use the land for future flood control project mitigation most likely for desert tortoises.
