There are two items of interest to our Morongo Basin on the consent calendar at tomorrow’s 10 a.m. meeting of county supervisors in San Bernardino. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us what they are…
Agenda item 13 is an agreement with Airbnb Inc. to collect and remit to the county the seven percent transient occupancy tax on behalf of those that use Airbnb’s online booking service for short-term lodging in unincorporated areas of the county. The agreement, which goes into effect August 1, mirrors similar agreements already in use in Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms. The county tax collector estimates the agreement will bring in an additional $2 million in revenue to the county’s general fund. Operators of short-term rentals of 30 days or less are required to register with the county, collect the seven percent tax, and pay it via a quarterly tax return. Also tomorrow, agenda item 40 extends for another year a water education and rebate program for ratepayers in County Special Districts Service areas in Morongo Valley and Pioneertown respectively.
Tomorrow’s meeting streams online and to the first-floor teleconferencing room in the County Government Center on White Feather Road in Joshua Tree where public comment may be made via live video link.
