County Supervisor Dawn Rowe’s office hosted their first monthly Open House last night and plenty of residents came a-calling.
Between 40-50 residents of Morongo Basin showed up Thursday evening at the first monthly Open House event at the office of San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe (Third District) and while some came ready with questions, photos and documented issues, others just came to check it out.
Though many expected the event to include a presentation by Rowe herself, the supervisor was not present, and the event was a true ‘open house’ – an informal gathering of Rowe’s local staff and several members of County Code Enforcement, including Division Chief Ignacio Nunez.
Held at Rowe’s office at the Bob Burke Government Center, attendees included Captain Robert Warrick of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, Yucca Valley Mayor Rick Denison, Executive Director of Copper Mountain College Foundation Sandy Smith, Morongo Basin Conservation Association Director Pat Flanagan, Morongo Basin ARCH President Astrid Johnson, and Michael Emory, who serves on the board for the Morongo Valley Community Services District and Fire Department.
Issues of concern included: unruly off-roaders, Airbnb’s, a fire department in Wonder Valley, renewable energies, roads in Morongo Valley, illegal construction waste dumping, the permitting process for alternative camps, the housing shortage, and protection of dark night skies.
