COUNTY SUPERVISOR DAWN ROWE MAY HAVE TO LEAVE HER SEAT

A court ruling Wednesday, (January 8,) means San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe of Yucca Valley may have to leave her 3rd District seat. An appellate court ruled against San Bernardino County’s request that Supervisor Dawn Rowe stay in her seat while it appeals an earlier superior court ruling that voided her appointment. The county and I.E. United, the political advocacy group that sued over the appointment, have differing interpretations of the ruling. County spokesman David Wert said Thursday that the county is reviewing its options, but the decision could mean supervisors must rescind Rowe’s appointment and remove her from the board. The earliest that could happen is the next board meeting, Tuesday, January 28. The county could also appeal to the State Supreme Court, he said. Michael Gomez Daly, executive director of I.E. United, said the ruling means Rowe is no longer a supervisor and it’s now up to the governor to choose a new member. In September, Superior Court Judge Janet M. Frangie said the process used in November and December 2018 by supervisors to fill the 3rd District supervisor’s seat violated the state’s open-meeting law, and ordered that the appointment be rescinded. The county appealed and its request that she stay was granted November 26, but reversed Wednesday.
