County Sheriff’s “Operation Crowing Rooster” focuses on rural crime; Landers man arrested

A special operation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department focusing on rural crimes led to the arrest of one man in Landers. 

Called “Operation Crowing Rooster,” the Sheriff’s Department’s rural crime operation ran from June 14 through August 1 and led to 26 search warrants and a total of 56 arrests. The Sheriff’s Department defined the operation as focusing on crimes in rural nature to include but not limited to animal cruelty, the theft of copper, fuel, heavy equipment, large animals, fencing, and cargo. Arrests were made in San Bernardino, Bloomington, Muscoy, Lucerne Valley, Chino, Phelan, Hesperia, and Landers.

The Sheriff’s Department said that a warrant served in the 59900 block of Phillipi Lane in Landers led to the arrest of Enrique Campos, 56. Court records did not show why Campos was arrested.

During the six-week period, investigators served 26 search warrants throughout the County of San Bernardino. Investigators arrested ten subjects for felony crimes, 46 subjects for misdemeanor crimes including animal cruelty, and relinquished 3500 cock fighting birds to Animal Care Services. Additionally, investigators seized over $259,000.00 in U.S. currency, recovered 12 firearms (including three ghost guns), and seized 12 ounces of cocaine, 11.5 ounces of methamphetamine, and 6 grams of fentanyl with a street value of about $11,000.00.
