San Bernardino County reported 197 new coronavirus cases but no new deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday (June 21). The new numbers bring the county total to 9,156 confirmed cases which includes 5,382 people who have recovered. The latest figures come in a week when the county set a one-day record for new cases, 440, on Thursday, June 18.
Here in the Morongo Basin, we have 68 confirmed cases, Yucca Valley with 32; Joshua Tree 16; Twentynine Palms with 12; and Morongo Valley with seven.
There have been 233 county residents who died due to COVID-19; 2.6 percent of the confirmed total cases, with five new deaths in since last Sunday.
Testing was up 2.6 percent on Sunday, bringing the total of county residents tested for the coronavirus to 106,905, with 8.6 percent of those testing positive. County data also shows that 13,269 people tested for antibodies that reveal if an individual had the virus previously and could be immune. Of those, 1.2 percent came back positive. The latest data on county hospitals shows that there 229 patients with confirmed COVID-19 and 64 suspected cases, totaling 293 as of Tuesday, when those numbers were last updated, compared to 217 on June 1.
