COUNTY RAISING DOG LICENSE FEES

San Bernardino County’s Animal Care and Control has announced that fees for dog licenses will increase on July 1. As always, there are tremendous discounts for spayed and neutered dogs as well as dog owners who are seniors or disabled. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Come July 1, the County’s Animal Care and Control (ACC) will raise dog license fees for all pet owners in unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County, including the Morongo Basin. The fees were last raised in 2016.

The fee for an unaltered dog—one that has not been spayed or neutered—was $96 and will be $120. For dogs that have been altered or “fixed,” the fee was $24 and will increase to $36. If a resident is a senior citizen or disabled, the fee was $12 and will increase to $18. Proof of spay/neuter certificate, senior citizen status, and disability are required to receive discounts.

Pet owners can also score a discount for purchasing a multi-year license.

All dogs four months or older should be licensed by the county within 15 days of ownership. Unlicensed dogs older than five months and owned beyond 15 days will result in a $20 penalty fee.

For more info, call ACC at 800-472-5609 or visit sbcounty.gov.

Spaying/neutering is mandatory in the unincorporated county areas for pit bull and pit bull-type dogs. Financial assistance for spaying and neutering dogs and cats may be available. Call the Pet Over-Population Coalition (POPCO) at 888-767-2550 or visit www.popco-inc.org.
