COUNTY PLANNING MEETING FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES TONIGHT

Residents of Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms rely on their municipal governments to make decisions about zoning, planning, transit, housing and environmental preservation in those communities. But for every other community in our Morongo Basin, those decisions, literally thousands of them, are ultimately made by county government. The decision-makers in San Bernardino are guided by a broad Countywide Plan and by more narrowly focused Community Plans within it. Right now, the county is in the middle of a years-long process of updating the Countywide Plan and the Community Plans within it. Because public input is essential to the success of these plans, county representatives are holding an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Joshua Tree Community Center behind the Sportsman’s Club on Sunburst Street in Joshua Tree. This is an opportunity to review and comment on draft local plans for Joshua Tree, Morongo Valley, Pioneertown, and the Homestead Valley Communities.
