COUNTY OFFICIALS ON “UP CLOSE” DISCUSS RE-OPENINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

With the county entering phase two of Governor Newsom’s reopening plan, last Friday’s Up Close guest explains how you can still protect yourself and those around you in public, and why an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases is no cause for immediate alarm. Reporter Cassidy Zimarik has the recap…

As the county begins to reopen, Corwin Porter, the assistant director for Public Health with San Bernardino County, joined Gary Daigneault on the Z107.7 Up Close Show and urged residents to continue precautions while we work to return to “normal” and not to be too scared when you see the number of cases of COVID- 19 in the county increase. He encouraged residents to continue to wear masks in public.

“It’s really about doing the right thing. How can I protect those around me, and it’s more of a responsibility from my perspective”

The recommended precautions include social distancing, wearing masks in public, frequent sanitation of surfaces and washing your hands often—especially before touching your face. Following these precautions could prevent the county moving backwards.

“We could go back to the beginning of stage two, or even beyond into stage one.”

While continuing in stage two, it is also important to remember that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 will continue to increase, but don’t freak out yet.

“What you’re actually seeing behind the scenes is our testing has increased dramatically within the county. So, we’re actually having less positive cases per the number of tests that are conducted. “
