Due to the COVID-19 shutdown and the resulting economic crisis, many county residents are facing a dire food shortage, so a Food Assistance Strike Force has been formed to coordinate much-needed outreach. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
San Bernardino County has established a Food Assistance Strike Force to address the high demand for food assistance during these stressful times.
Organized into five subgroups determined by supervisor districts, the strike force coordinates efforts of cities, food banks, churches, the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and other charities. They compile the info into one database that is publicly accessible via the County’s COVID-19 website, sbcovid19.com.
The resulting information will also be shared through all social media channels. Available programs includes: “Grab and Go” meals distributed at over 30 sites throughout the county, Home Delivered Meals programs and meals to homeless through the Project Room Key program.
The County also hopes to implement its “Restaurants Deliver—Home Meals for Seniors” program recently announced by Governor Gavin Newsom.
