As of 6:00 a.m. this morning, the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District has declared a ban on open fires due to several high-risk factors. Reporter Heather Clisby has details …
Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Warden Michael Horton of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFPD) has issued a “proclamation of suspension” of any open fires in most of the county. Citing the risky combination of high winds, climbing temperatures, and low humidity, the fire ban began at 6:00 a.m. this morning and will remain until safer conditions resume.
The open fire ban affects District 4, which includes unincorporated areas in the Morongo Basin, as well as Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms, and Needles, but excluding Morongo Valley.
Any extraneous need for an open fire – such as a film production, public fireworks or a ceremonial event – would require a Special Event permit. Be warned that any illegal fires could result in legal action for both the fire-starter and the landowner.
