COUNTY FIRE CHIEF CALLS A MEETING WITH WONDER VALLEY RESIDENTS

San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig has called for a Wonder Valley community meeting at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 8. Hartwig will make a presentation on expanding the County’s Fire protection District 5 to cover the Wonder Valley area. Currently Wonder Valley property owners pay a $35 annual property assessment for fire protection. If the County folds the Wonder Valley district into Fire protection District 5, that yearly assessment will go to $157.56, some four times the current fee, and could automatically be increased by 3 percent a year. The County says the current $35 fee is unsustainable; for the past two years the county has paid an additional million dollars to keep the Wonder Valley Fire District afloat. The open meeting will be held at the Wonder Valley Community Center.
