The price tag for the planned Park Boulevard reconstruction project  in Joshua Tree recently got a whole lot more expensive. Reporter Mike Lipsitz explains why …

Just over a year ago, the county released a plan to resurface Park Boulevard  in Joshua Tree from Alta Loma Drive north to Twentynine Palms Highway (State Highway 62). The project was originally budgeted to cost $1,411,000 using county transportation Measure I funds. That figure got a $537,872 increase last month bringing the total to just under $2 million. The additional funds will go toward improvements at intersecting roadways, something not originally included in the planning phase. The project has been coordinated with Joshua Tree National Park with Construction is expected to begin this summer in order to avoid peak tourist season. Completion is expected by November 2020.
