Last week Governor Gavin Newsom said that California’s economy may be just weeks, not months, away from a gradual reopening. For the county’s board of supervisors , the governor’s suggestion was enough to reveal what reopening will look like in the county. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has some of the details…
Barring any unforeseen uptick in COVID-19 cases, the coming weeks could begin to see a phased reopening of the economy here. Medical experts, business owners, economists, the faith community and others have been working with the County’s Recovery Coalition to develop a phased plan for getting back to business. County supervisors could receive the plan as soon as today.
Without being specific, board chairman Curt Hagman said last week the first phase of re-openings will include lower-risk business sectors but he cautioned that reopening and staying open will depend on the public’s use face coverings, frequent hand washing, and maintaining physical distancing, while businesses will need to limit occupancies and use floor markings, and provide personal protection equipment for employees.
Hagman also announced the county is committing up to $30 million in federal COVID-19 funds to support local businesses through the Small Business Rapid Recovery Program.
