San Bernardino County reported 11 coronavirus deaths and 397 new cases Wednesday (June 24) as public health officials say a backlog of cases is behind recent increases. In the county, 245 people have died from COVID-19, and 10,407 have tested positive so far. The jump in cases has increased the county’s percentage of tests that come back positive, one of the numbers being monitored by the state.
Here in the Morongo Basin, the number of confirmed cases ticked up to 72, with Yucca Valley reporting 35, Joshua Tree has 18, Twentynine Palms at 12, and Morongo Valley with seven. The state requires counties to have an average positivity rate of 8 percent or lower over a seven-day period. Monday the county’s positivity rate was 8.7 percent; 9.1 percent of the 114,640 people tested for the disease were positive. Testing was up with an additional 3,050 people getting tested.
