COUNTY CORONAVIRUS CASES GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION

San Bernardino County’s coronavirus numbers continued heading in the wrong direction Thursday (November 12), with COVID-19 hospitalizations above 300 patients for the first time since August 28. For the past week, the county has averaged 664 new cases per day, approaching numbers seen during previous peaks in July and August. San Bernardino County is not meeting the criteria to move to a less-restrictive tier. When it has met them for two consecutive weeks, it can advance. The state updates numbers and tiers on Tuesdays.

Confirmed cases: 71,847 total, up 775 from Wednesday, November 11, averaging 664 reported per day in the past week

Deaths: 1,096 total, no change from Wednesday, averaging 0.6 reported per day in the past week

Hospital survey: 302 confirmed and 50 suspected patients hospitalized Wednesday, including 84 confirmed and two suspected patients in the ICU, with 25 of 25 facilities reporting. The number of confirmed patients is up 7.5% from a week earlier.

People tested: 897,696 total, up 3,305 from Wednesday, averaging 7,312 reported per day in the past week

Resolved cases (estimate): 66,374 total, up 470 from Wednesday, averaging 459 per day in the past week

Reopening plan tier: Purple (widespread risk level, many non-essential indoor business operations are closed) based on these metrics as of Tuesday:

New cases per day per 100,000 residents: 17.2

Case rate adjusted for testing volume: 16.8

Test positivity rate: 7.7% (9.3% in socioeconomically challenged neighborhoods)
