COUNTY CONSIDERS APPEAL OF A DIFFERENT KIND OF SOLAR PROJECT

At its meeting this week, the San Bernardino County Planning Commission is considering an appeal against a solar field project outside our area. Reporter Dan Stork says the hearing is interesting in a couple of respects…
The San Bernardino County Planning Commission will hear an appeal against a permit for a solar energy generation project that is NOT a commercial project. Rather, according to a county Land Use Services staff report, the Silver Lakes Association, a private homeowners’ association in Helendale, initiated the project to power its own common amenities. A Helendale couple with a property near the proposed 18-acre project site appealed the project. Among several points of rebuttal given by LUS staff to points made in the appeal was this: “As found in other cases … no demonstrable evidence has been produced that proximity to a solar energy generation facility… impacts the assessed values of properties in the vicinity.” The meeting is being held at 9 am on Thursday, February 19, at the County Government Center , 385 N. Arrowhead Avenue, 1st Floor in San Bernardino.
