COUNTY CLAIMS TO HAVE HOUSED EVERY HOMELESS VET

The County of San Bernardino is claiming to have located housing for every homeless veteran in the county. Reporter Mike Lipsitz says work still needs to be done…
Last summer, county supervisors vowed to find housing for every homeless veteran in the county by the end of 2015. In a press release issued late last month, county supervisors claim to have met their goal. The release states that by Thanksgiving, housing for some 500 identified homeless veterans had been secured. The county worked with a variety of social service providers, plus tapped into some general fund resources to provide security deposits in some cases. Far from finished, the county says another 100 veterans became homeless after the effort or moved to the county after Thanksgiving. Hopes are that if this model is really working, the county will apply it to assist other sections of the county’s homeless population.
