COUNTY AWARDED $5.6 MILLION GRANT FOR EARLY LITERACY

San Bernardino County has received $5.6 million in grant funding for early literacy over a five-year period. According to County Superintendent Ted Alejandre, “This funding will help support literacy efforts in San Bernardino County and our surrounding regions, and [it] will provide greater opportunities for all of our students.” Awarded by the California Department of Education, the grant will serve students from birth to twelfth grade, especially English Learners, students living in poverty, and those with disabilities. Some funds will be directed to resources like the award-winning Footsteps2Brilliance program, which is available in English and Spanish to county children ages 0-5.
