COUNTY AWARDED $200,000 GRANT TO COMBAT ILLEGAL MARIJUANA GROWS

The County of San Bernardino accepted a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice during its January 26 meeting to help the Sheriff’s Department eradicate illegal marijuana grows in the county. The Justice Department has awarded this grant to the county for 14 years. The funds will be used primarily for overtime pay of the detectives involved in the eradication of illegal grows. The Sheriff’s Department has received an increased number of calls about illegal marijuana grows in the Morongo Basin. During a recently completed four-month-long investigation that targeted illegal marijuana cultivations in the Morongo Basin, deputies with the Gang/Narcotics Division served 56 search warrants and made 68 arrests.
