Aided by Mojave Desert Land Trust volunteers and the Bureau of Land Management, 67 corporate leaders helped remove trash Tuesday from an area of desert bordering Joshua Tree National Park and Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. The volunteers cleared about three acres at Long Canyon and filled a 20-yard dumpster with tires, building waste, household debris, and shell casings. Areas like Long Canyon are sand sources for the Coachella Valley, and trash can enter the blow sand systems in the valley and threaten endangered species such as the Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard.
