CORONER ID’S VICTIM OF WEDNESDAY’S FATAL CRASH IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

The coroner has identified the Twentynine Palms man who was killed in a collision in Twentynine Palms Wednesday night as Robert Payne, 70. Cameron Turner, 19, was towing a vehicle in a Toyota Tacoma westbound on Amboy Road. Payne was driving a Subaru Outback eastbound. For unknown reasons the two cars crashed head-on about 7:30 p.m. Payne was declared deceased at the scene. Turner and his passenger, Jason Bussell, 22, of Twentynine Palms, were critically injured in the crash and were flown to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The coroner has not yet determined Payne’s cause of death. The California Highway Patrol lists the intersection where the crash occurred as Sandy Lane, but Sandy Lane runs parallel to Amboy Road.
