CORONER IDENTIFIES VICTIMS IN FRIDAY’S YUCCA VALLEY CRASH

The County Coroner’s office has identified the victims in the multi-vehicle crash that killed two people in Yucca Valley Friday afternoon. Doreen Hollingsworth, 83, of Yucca Valley, and Duane Griffin, 83, of Morongo Valley, were traveling eastbound in a silver Toyota Corolla on Highway 62 near La Honda Way about 2:07 p.m. when for unknown reasons, the Toyota sideswiped a blue Chevy pick-up truck, also traveling eastbound on the highway. Hollingsworth lost control of the Corolla, and the car started rolling over, and landed on the roof of a white Lincoln—which had moved into the westbound turn lane—before falling off. Hollingsworth and Griffin were killed in the crash. The man and woman in the Lincoln suffered minor injuries and were taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The driver of the pick-up truck was uninjured. Both east-and westbound lanes of Highway 62 were closed during the Sheriff’s investigation, backing up traffic for miles in both directions, until the highway was re-opened between 9:30 and 10 p.m.
