A Twentynine Palms Marine riding a motorcycle was killed, and a female passenger was injured, in a crash in Yucca Valley Monday afternoon. The County Coroner said Benjamin Mark Lawrenson was killed when a car made a U-turn in front of him and the motorcycle T-boned into the car at 5:19 p.m. Investigators said the driver of the car had turned eastbound out of the AM/PM parking lot at Balsa Avenue and Highway 62, and then made a westbound U-turn directly into the path of the motorcycle, also traveling eastbound on the highway. Benjamin Lawrenson, 21, of Durant, Oklahoma, died at Hi-Desert Medical Center. The unidentified female passenger was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The driver of the car was uninjured. The Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station is investigating.
