CORONAVIRUS HOSPITALIZATIONS UP, LATEST LOCAL FIGURES

The number of coronavirus hospitalizations in San Bernardino County is up 21% from a week ago, according to numbers released Monday, October 26. San Bernardino County now has had 62,774 confirmed cases, up 155 from Sunday, (October 25) averaging 428 reported per day in the past week. There have been 1,072 deaths, no change from Sunday, averaging 7.3 reported per day in the past week. 219 confirmed and 42 suspected patients were hospitalized Sunday, including 45 confirmed and 7 suspected patients in the ICU, confirmed patients is up 21.0% from a week earlier.

Here in the Morongo Basin, there are 510 confirmed cases and 31 deaths; Yucca Valley with 251 cases and 24 deaths; Joshua Tree, 99 cases and four deaths; Twentynine Palms, 99 cases and one death; Morongo Valley, 47 cases and one death; Landers, 12 cases and one death; and Pioneertown with two cases.

People tested: 780,190 total, up 6,312 from Sunday, averaging 7,183 reported per day in the past week

Resolved cases (estimate): 59,457 total, up 275 from Sunday, averaging 326 per day in the past week

Reopening plan tier: Purple (widespread risk level, many non-essential indoor business operations are closed) based on these metrics as of Tuesday:

New cases per day per 100,000 residents: 10.8

Case rate adjusted for testing volume: 10.9

Test positivity rate: 6.2% (8.5% in socioeconomically challenged neighborhoods)

What’s next: San Bernardino County is not meeting the criteria to move to a less-restrictive tier. When it has met them for two consecutive weeks, it can advance. The state updates numbers and tiers on Tuesdays.
