Copper Mountain Community College releases statement regarding dismantling of Federal Dept. of Education

Recent changes to the Federal Department of Education will not significantly impact Copper Mountain College, according to a statement issued by the school on Friday (March 21).

An executive order issued by President Donald Trump on Thursday (March 20) that initiates the complete dismantling of the federal department came with the announcement that oversight of federal student loans and special needs and nutrition programs will be overseen by other agencies.

Copper Mountain College Superintendent Darrel Ottten released a statement saying, “While the full impact of these actions is still uncertain, I want to provide reassurance. CMC operates independently of significant federal funding, and federal dollars make up only a small portion (approximately 3%) of the California Community Colleges’ annual budget. Although the loss of any funding presents challenges, our system is well-prepared to continue serving our students and communities without major disruption.”
