COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL DEBATE TOURNAMENTS

For the first time ever, two Copper Mountain College Speech and Debate team members qualified for two prestigious national tournaments. Matt Evans and Anthony Matthews traveled to Hutchinson, Kansas for the American Forensics Association – National Tournament of Excellence, and to the National Forensics Tournament in Huntington, West Virginia. To qualify for these national debate tournaments, a student must make the final round of a previous tournament and for the AFA Tournament, they must also rank in the top three at three or more regular season debate tournaments. Although Evans and Matthews did not advance to a final round at either of these national tournaments, they received high marks and gained skills for next year’s competitions. The majority of schools at the tournaments were from four-year universities, and very few community college students have the opportunity to participate in either of these tournaments. Congratulations, Matt Evans and Anthony Matthews.
