COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS SANTA ANA COLLEGE

Copper Mountain College men’s basketball team traveled to Santa Ana California Wednesday afternoon to take on the Dons of Santa Ana College, and won, 83-76. Both teams came into the game with a record of one win and two losses in the Orange Empire Conference.

CMC came out in the first half and jumped out early on Santa Ana. Sophomore Dominique Anderson made a couple of highlight plays to end the first half, giving the Fighting Cacti the lead 45-38.

Freshman Guard Will Valsien played tenacious defense and gave Copper Mountain a spark to start the second half. Standout point guard Anthony Rice and freshman forward Dillion Voyles made big shot after big shot throughout the second half to help carry CMC to the victory 83-76.

Anthony Rice led all scorers with 28 points. Will Valsien had a great game off of the bench tonight with 18 points and six assists. Dillion Voyles added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Cacti. Dominique Anderson, along with Zack Kroker, grabbed 10 rebounds apiece for Copper Mountain in the win.

CMC improves to 12-8 on the year and 2-2 in Orange Empire conference play.

The Fighting Cacti will host California’s number 1 overall ranked team in the state, Fullerton College Friday, January 25. Let’s pack the Bell Center and come out and support the “new pride of the Hi-Desert,” your CMC Fighting Cacti! Tip-off 5 p.m.
