A Copper Mountain College student has recently begun an internship with a Joshua Tree technology company. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information about Benjamin Robertson and the internship…
At the spry age of 19, Benjamin Robertson just began an internship position with recently established Bowtie Technology, a Joshua Tree interactive technology and prototyping company started by a former researcher who worked for Apple. Robertson—who is a second year computer science student—is exuberant about the opportunity, saying that creating new inventions is exciting. Robertson said he became interested in computers when he got his first smart phone at age 13, and he learned that he could encode video for phones and computers.
Robertson plans to graduate from CMC next year, and then transfer to the University of Texas.
When asked when he first became interested in computers, Benjamin talks about when he got his first smart phone: “I was 13 years old, I was amazed at how ‘perfect’ the device seemed to me! Two years down the line, I realized that you could encode video for phone and for computers, and further that I could learn to code for computers and the programs that make them work! This was a huge realization for me.”
After graduating from Joshua Springs Christian School, Benjamin enrolled at CMC and began working on his computer science degree. Benjamin is looking to graduate in May 2020.
He already has bigger plans. After graduation, he’ll be transferring to Austin, TX where he’s looking to earn a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas. Professionally his goals are to become a system analytics administrator for a major international corporation.
