Copper Mountain College’s men’s basketball team traveled up to San Bernardino Wednesday night to take on conference opponent San Bernardino Valley College. Both teams came into the game with losses in their first two conference games and were equally in dire need of their first league win.
It was a well-played first half and through the first 20 minutes, the Fighting Cacti Seemed to be in control. Even after a late 5-0 run to finish the half for San Bernardino Valley College, Copper Mountain College maintained a three-point lead at halftime 35-32.
The second half was full of runs. Both teams exchanged baskets and each team, at one point in the half held a double digit lead over the other. The Fighting Cacti fought hard but after missed free throws, a few late game “bad” calls which resulted in a trio of key Cacti players fouling out, CMC came up short in the closing seconds, 86-83.
Dillon Voyles led Copper Mountain College with 21 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Marc Hall had 18 points; Hyking Brisbon tallied up 12 and freshman point guard Tyler Hudson Chipped in 11 points and five assists.
Copper Mountain is 6-9 on the year and 0-3 in conference play. Come see if the team can get its winning mojo back Saturday afternoon as it hosts Victor Valley College at home January 11. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. at the Copper Mountain College Bell Center.
