Copper Mountain College Men’s Basketball team takes a devastating loss on the road at Riverside City College Friday night in the final game of the season. CMC played well the entire night, fighting for their post season hopes. The Fighting Cacti held a 44-40 lead at halftime. The second half would be a game of runs for both teams. With a 1:30 seconds left in regulation Copper Mountain had a 6 point lead, 77-71. Two extremely crucial turnovers occurred back to back, followed by missed free throws and the Cacti found themselves all tied up at 79 and headed to overtime. In the extra period, RCC made the tough plays they needed on their Sophomore Night, to secure the victory 94-89 in OT. Anthony Rice led CMC on the night with 22 points, 5 Rebounds, 5 Assist and 4 Steals. Dominique Anderson had a great game with 16 Points and 13 Rebounds. Freshmen Zack Kroker and Dshaun Barrett both Scored 14 points on the night and Will Valsien chipped in 10 points for the Fighting Cacti in the final contest of the season. Copper Mountain through all the Adversity they faced this year finished the season 15-13 overall and 5-7 in Orange Empire Conference. By a miracle the Cacti have a slim chance of making the post season but, either way they made Hi-Desert proud this year. This is the second year as a program and already CMC has accumulated 35 wins and two consecutive winning seasons. The future looks bright for CMC basketball, which means the surrounding Morongo Basin communities definitely have a college sports team to be proud for very long time to come.
