COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BASKETBALL TAKES A LOSS

By Brittain Kelly

The Copper Mountain College men’s basketball team traveled on the road to the number 2-ranked team in California, Fullerton College, Wednesday night, and lost, 62-43.

It seemed as if CMC would have a repeat of their early conference win against the Hornets by the way they controlled the first 20 minutes. The team maintained a 23-18 lead going into the half. CMC came into the game without a key rotation player, freshman wing Dillon Voyles, who was out with a concussion. To add insult to injury, at the end of the first half Copper Mountain standout point guard Anthony Rice went down on a hard foul. For the remainder of the game Rice had to play with a split chin that required stitches.

With the floor general wounded and a key playmaker out, CMC struggled to score the ball in the second half. Despite the valiant effort, Copper Mountain fell with a final score of 62-43.

Anthony Rice played a honorable game finishing up with 17 points, six assists and four steals on the night.

CMC falls to 15-12 on the year and 5-6 in the Orange Empire Conference. With one lone game of the regular season remaining this Friday February 22,, the Fighting Cacti will go on the road to Riverside City College in what looks like a “Win, you’re in” situation for Copper Mountain to make the playoffs. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
