On what would be considered a very controversial ending, CMC would lose a heartbreaker at home Friday night. Copper Mountain hosted conference foe Cypress College. Friday’s game was a must win situation for both teams as they wind down to the final stretch of conference play games. The Fighting Cacti started the game off with solid energy and seemed to be in control as they jumped out to a early 8 point lead. Cypress would not go quietly into the night, as they came storming back raining three pointers from all over the court to regain a 2 point advantage going into the half 44-42. Copper Mountain fought hard and the game would go back and forth the entire second half. The game would come down to the final possession. Under 7 seconds to go with CMC down 76-75, Sophomore Guard Anthony Rice would penetrate to the basket for what would of been the game winning layup. Rice was Viciously fouled on the play and there would be no foul called by the referees, sending the Bell center into an uproar. Copper Mountain would unfortunately fall 77-75 on Sophomore night for the Cacti. Dominique Anderson led Cacti scorers with 18 Points 12 Rebounds and 3 Blocks, Anthony Rice had 15 points and 5 Assist and Sophomore Malcom Evans Chipped In 11 points and 6 Rebounds in the loss for Copper Mountain. CMC falls to 13-11 on the year and 3-5 in the Orange Empire conference. Next up for the Cacti is Orange Coast College, Tuesday 2/12/19 @Orange Coast.
