Cooling options available to help extreme heat

As temperatures continue to stay high, hitting up to triple digits in Twentynine Palms, heat-beating resources are a more common occurrence in the high desert. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center announced over the holiday weekend that they will be open today as a cooling center and provider of water. Located at 6539 Adobe Rd in Twentynine Palms, the senior center will be open to the public today (September 6) from will be open to the public as a cooling center for area residents of any age from noon to 5 p.m.

If the heat index remains at 115 degrees or higher or other conditions necessitate the center will stay open for extended hours. Water will be available however there is no food service.
In Yucca Valley you can stay cool at the Yucca Valley Community Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at the Yucca Valley Senior Center is available Monday through Friday. The Yucca Valley Public Pool is open during the week from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All public libraries are serving as cooling centers, including the previously mentioned Yucca Valley Branch Library, located at 57271 29 Palms Highway, the Joshua Tree Branch Library, located at 6465 Park Boulevard, and the The Twentynine Palms Branch Library, located at 6078 Adobe Rd will function as cooling centers during their open hours, Mondays through Wednesdays from 11 a.m to 7 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
