When the weather gets hot and excessive heat warnings go into effect, residents are urged to seek shelter in air-conditioned buildings or cooling centers. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center at 6539 Adobe Road will be open as a cooling center for area residents starting tomorrow, (June 15) through Friday (June 18) from noon-6 p.m. Water will be available. A maximum of 12 individuals will be allowed at a time due to COVID-19 restrictions. All attendees must undergo a health screening and social distancing and masks will be required. The center will remain open extended hours if temperatures exceed 115 degrees. For assistance, call the Senior Center at 760-361-1410 or 760-367-5780. In Yucca Valley a Town Spokesman said the county branch library and the town hall lobby were available for cooling.
