With an excessive heat warning in effect until tomorrow night, a cooling center will be open today (July 2) in Twentynine Palms. Starting at noon, the Twentynine Palms Senior Center, located at 6539 Adobe Road, will be open to the public as a cooling facility.
Water will be available at the Senior Center, but no food will be served. The cooling center will be open until 5 p.m., unless the heat remains above 115 degrees, at which point the center may stay open for extended hours.
Pets are not allowed inside the building. For information on pets and animals, please contact Palms-N-Paws Animal Shelter at 760-367-0157.
If you or someone you know is feeling ill from the heat, immediately move to a cooler environment, offer water, and seek medical help or call 911.
For assistance regarding the cooling center, call the Senior Center at 760-361-1410 or 760-367-5780.
