Rep. Paul Cook (R-Yucca Valley) today had two bills pass out of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs by unanimous votes. The bills will be considered on the floor of the House after summer recess. “Prioritizing Urgent Claims for Veterans Act” requires the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to give priority status to those veterans who file claims and meet one of the following criteria: 1) have attained the age of 70; 2) are terminally ill; 3) have a life-threatening illness; 4) are former POWs; 5) are seriously or very seriously injured; or 6) have claims that are being reviewed again in relation to a previously denied claim relating to military sexual trauma. The “Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) Reauthorization Act” reauthorizes a program that offers grants to organizations that assist veterans with job training and placement.
