Last week, Z107.7 News reported that the chief of staff for Congressman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley said that Cook was considering not running for re-election to Congress. Yesterday, John Sobel confirmed that Cook will retire from Congress and will run for the 1st District County Supervisor’s seat, currently held by Robert Lovingood, who has said he would not run for reelection in 2020. Cook, who lives in the 3rd District and is a former Yucca Valley council member, mayor, and State Assemblyman, will have to move and live in the 1st District, which borders the 3rd District to the north, for at least a month prior to filing. Cook is the 18th Republican Congressman who will not be running for re-election in 2020.
Yucca Valley resident Dawn Rowe also announced yesterday that she is running for election for the County Supervisor 3rd District. Rowe was appointed to the Board of Supervisors last December after James Ramos was elected in November to the State Assembly. Rowe was also a Yucca Valley council member and mayor, and was a field representative for Cook at the time of her appointment to the county board of supervisors.
