CONTROVERSIAL SOLAR FARM GETS THE GO AHEAD; PUBLIC COMMENT SOUGHT

The Trump Administration said Thursday it plans to approve a 3,100-acre, 500-megawatt solar farm just eight miles south of the boundary of Joshua Tree National Park. The Palen Solar Project would generate enough renewable energy to power 130,000 homes, and, at its peak, would provide more than 1,100 jobs. However, environmentalists and Native American groups have criticized the project, saying it would threaten the habitat of several desert animal species, and that tribal lands extend beyond reservation boundaries.
