Congressman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley recently led an official Congressional bi-partisan delegation to Peru for the eighth Summit of the Americas. Cook is the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. The delegation met with the presidents of Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico and Peru, as well as the foreign ministers of Chile and Caribbean countries from April 13_16. Following the Summit, the delegation visited Pucallpa, Peru, to observe U.S.-supported efforts on manual coca eradication and alternative crop development. Cook said the delegation emphasized working together to address systemic corruption plaguing the region and the violence in Venezuela.
