Congressman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley was named Thursday as the new chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. The Western Hemisphere subcommittee covers political relations between the United States and other nations in North and South America. The subcommittee conducts oversight on regional institutions, foreign assistance, regional activities of the United Nations, and all regional security pacts. Cook said he plans to “help hold accountable rogue regimes in Venezuela and Cuba, support our allies in their struggle against the drug cartels, and find ways to promote security and economic prosperity across the hemisphere.”
