CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE ASKS STUDENTS TO PUT CODING SKILLS TO THE TEST

Congressman Jay Obernolte is inviting middle and high school students to develop their own app as part of the Congressional App Challenge. For more on this competition, we go to reporter Jef Harmatz…

Each year, the United States House of Representatives asks middle and high school students to build their own app or computer program as part of their “App Challenge.” 8th District Representative Jay Obernolte, a former video game developer himself, is encouraging students in the high desert and throughout his district to compete, either solo or in groups of up to four. A panel of tech-savvy local judges will select the best of the submitted apps, and the winning software will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building, and the first place programmers will be invited to the reception on Capitol Hill. The deadline for submissions is November 1.

Participants must submit their app along with required materials and any additional accompanying information through the official competition website at www.CongressionalAppChallenge.us by midnight EDT on November 1, 2021. For additional information, competition rules, and forms, visit Rep. Obernolte’s website at
