Since talk of adding unincorporated desert communities to the county code regulating short-term vacation rentals first surfaced confusion has ensued. And since county supervisors’ November 5 approval of the amended code regulating vacation rentals, confusion has continued. Reporter Mike Lipsitz is here to help sort it all out…
County Code Enforcement, Land Use Services, and the Board of Supervisors agree on the new language, definitions, permitting and other requirements of the amended development code relating to short-term vacation rentals and accessory dwelling units. When and how the ordinance will be implemented has been unclear at best with conflicting information coming from different county sources. The County has promised to clear things up in a unified statement due out later today. Essentially, that statement will delay implementation of the ordinance until December 5 or 6. In the meantime, those who operate AirBNB-type rentals in the desert will find short-term rental permit applications and related documents, and even pay the permit fee through the county’s EZ Online permitting application.
